Effects of Cultivation Methods on the Occurrence of Internal Brown Spot and Hollow Heart in Potato Tubers

Abstract
In order to decrease the occurrence of internal brown spot and hollow heart, which are the most serious physiological disorders in potato, nitrogen level, calcium level, planting density, and soil covering depth were investigated in the processing potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) cultivar, ¢¥Atlantic¢¥. Higher level of internal brown spot and hollow heart were observed at the treatment of 150 §¸¡¤§µ^(-1) nitrogen. As the calcium level increased, only 3.5% of internal brown spot took place in the alpine area of Daekwallyung. However, there was not significant difference in the low land area of Kangnung compared to the control (17.3%). Hollow heart did not show any difference in its occurrence with calcium treatments. As for planting density, less occurrence of internal brown spot and hollow heart was investigated as the spacing between plants was narrowed to 75¡¿20 §¯ and 75¡¿15 §¯ compared with the conventional spacing plot of 75¡¿25 §¯. As the depth of soil covered over the stem was higher than 10 §¯, the physiological disorders occurred less.
